Grumbling

6:00 a.m.             beep…beep…beep  Oh, the alarm clock! It’s Tuesday. I sure wish it was Saturday, then I could sleep in.

6:25 a.m.             No orange juice! The spouse didn’t pick any up. I told them to. Why don’t they listen to me?

7:10 a.m.             That was kind of a boring chapter of the Bible. At least I read it. Some people at Sunday School don’t even read their assignments for next week. I always read mine.

7:37 a.m.             Did you see that guy cut me off in traffic? Who does he think he is? People need to learn to drive!

8:04 a.m.             I was only four minutes late, why does the boss get so huffy over four minutes? He is such a micro-manager.

10:17 a.m.           If this rain doesn’t stop soon, I will go crazy!

10:23 a.m.           Look at that guy. I would never let myself get as overweight as that. I eat healthy.

12:10 p.m.           This lunch tastes terrible. You would think fast food would taste better.

2:12 p.m.             More paperwork? I hate paperwork!

3:26 p.m.             That lady wears the ugliest dresses. She needs to go shopping.

4:37 p.m.             This has been the longest day. Everyone is in such a grumpy mood. Come on clock, tick faster.

5:20 p.m.             Are the neighbors ever going to mow their lawn? Their yard makes the whole neighborhood look terrible.

5:25 p.m.             I’m so tired. Let’s do pizza tonight.

9:45 p.m.             Kids and their school projects! Why don’t teachers give them time in class? I could have finished watching my movie if I hadn’t glued cardboard for an hour.

10:30 p.m.           (in bed, groggy and almost asleep) I don’t like my job. I should look for another one…

James 5:9            Don’t grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!

1 Cor. 10              v.7   Do not be idolators

v. 8  We should not commit sexual immorality

v.9   We should not test the Lord

v.10  And do not grumble

v.12  So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!

This chapter is a list of evil things that we often let ourselves fall into.

As a Christian I often take pride in my good deeds. I don’t worship other gods. I am faithful in my marriage bed, and I don’t test the Lord. Yet, as I was reading the other day, it hit me that grumbling is listed right along with “the really bad things.” My view of sin is verses 7, 8, and 9. But not 10.

The Holy Spirit convicted me of this the other day so I began noting how often I grumbled and what I grumbled about. My days are so full of sin!

Lord, change me.
